We went ahead and submitted our Form I-800A (Application for Determination of Suitability to Adopt a Child from a Convention Country) on Friday. It is scheduled to arrived in Texas tomorrow morning. I'm excited because this is a MAJOR STEP in international adoption.
According to the government website, the purpose of this 9-page form is "for adjudicating the eligibility and suitability of the applicant(s) to adopt a child who habitually resides in a Hague Adoption Convention country." Along with the form itself, we submitted our home study as well as official documents proving that we were born in the USA, are legally married to each other, and are not legally married to anyone else. These documents for USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) all now go to a central office in Texas in an effort to streamline the international adoption process. I guess within a month or so we will get a notice scheduling us to go to the Boise USCIS office for fingerprints. Then a few weeks (?) later we will hopefully get the approval which is called Form I-797, Notice of Action. Notification of this approval "will be forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC), which will in turn forward to the Department of State overseas processing post."
We're getting there slowly but surely, please God.
